At first, I wasn't entirely convinced that this wireless headset was going to live up to my expectations on the PS5, even after trying out various presets and playing one game designed specifically for the console. But as I continued to use it, I began to realize just how much better it sounded compared to my old £40 PC headphones, which were initially purchased without any of these features. Once I'd figured out to turn off '3D Audio' in the console settings, and allowed the headphones to settle in with some extra volume control, I was blown away by the phenomenal sound quality. The crisp, deep, and concise sounds were incredibly immersive, with a staggering level of dynamic, atmospheric ambience that should be a standard for avid gamers. Initially, I thought these wireless headphones might be a bit tight, but it turns out they're actually an advantage - they'll last longer without becoming loose-fitting.
The adjustable/removable headband was also a game-changer for me, as it allowed the headset to contour perfectly to my small/average-sized head. I've grown to really like how it clutches to my head and stays still during long gaming sessions. The cups/earmuffs were initially hard to get used to, but after adjusting to their position on my head, they feel incredibly comfortable. Overall, the amount of sound suppression was practically perfect for what I wanted - not completely soundproofing, just enough to block out distracting background noises.
The connectivity was virtually flawless, with no issues whatsoever and an instant connection to the PS5 once it turned on. Bluetooth mode also allowed me to control settings and presets via the Arctis mobile app. The LED light around the Power/Mode-Select button switched seamlessly between '2.4GHz' and 'Bluetooth', indicating 'Charging' or 'Fully Charged'. When switching modes, I'd get a pleasant soft tone that ascended/descended in a short, gentle voice.
One feature I do wish for is the ability to adjust the volume level on either side of the headset - it's frustrating when you use muscle memory and accidentally control the wrong volume. The USB-C charging port was incredibly secure, with no chance of a cable falling out. Despite this one quibble, the battery life was truly extraordinary, lasting an incredible amount of time and charging most of its capacity within minutes.
The only thing I don't love about this headset is that it's designed with the controls on the 'LEFT' ear - something that all my other headsets have had. It took some getting used to, but it's a minor annoyance overall. The microphone was also detachable and could be muted/unmuted via the mute button.
The microphones themselves were easy to use and didn't pick up any background noises. The sound quality was exceptional - I highly recommend this headset for anyone with a PlayStation 5, and it's probably one of the best headsets available.
